SERGE PAYER FOUNDATION
We Are About Preventing Life's Opportunities Slipping Away
The Serge Payer Foundation is dedicated to reducing and eliminating Guillain-Barre Syndrome - the disorder that deprives the sufferer of so many of life's opportunities.
"In 1999, I was playing for the Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey League and was having a great season – in fact, the best season of my junior career. I woke up on a Sunday morning, January 10, 1999, with severe back pain. The following Sunday after a hot bath followed by a cold shower, I suddenly couldn’t tell if the water was hot or cold. The communication between my nerves and my brain just shut down."
-- Serge Payer
Our foundation’s mission is to raise general awareness and raise funds, so future generations and future GBS patients, can be cured more quickly, without having permanent nerve damage.
"It’s in my heart to give back. I have a great passion for that, and when I was personally afflicted with GBS in 1999, I wanted to do what I could to help fight it. It’s such a rare illness. I want to use my position in life to make a difference."
-- Serge Payer
We support research for cures and therapies:
- Medical Professionals are working collaboratively to learn how to prevent GBS and to make better therapies available when it strikes.
- Scientists are concentrating on finding new treatments and refining existing ones. Scientists are also looking at the workings of the immune system to find which cells are responsible for beginning and carrying out the attack on the nervous system.--NINDS
Your donation will help fund research, new treatments and a cure for this disease.
Early detection and treatment can help avoid permanent nerve damage.
Funding Innovative Research
A greater understanding of how the immune system damages the peripheral nervous system could lead to better treatments for GBS.
