About the Foundation

Our Mission

The Serge Payer Foundation aims to raise general awareness of Guillain-Barré Syndrome, to help fund research into new treatments and possible cures, and to help those who have been affected by the disease.

Prior to the founding of the Guillain-Barré Sundrome Foundation of Canada Inc. (GBSFCI), the Serge Payer Foundation donated funds to Dr. Angelika Hahn, a medical researcher at the University Hospital in London, Ontario. Since 2005, the Serge Payer Foundation’s main focus is to support the GBSFCI with donations.

As well, since 2004 the Serge Payer Foundation has been pleased to offer two postsecondary scholarships yearly, to one student attending L’Ecole Secondaire l’Escale and one student attending the Rockland District High School. The scholarships are worth $2500.00 per student.

Other beneficiaries of the Serge Payer Foundation have included “The Canada Cares Tour,” supporting Joannie Cowie’s wheelchair tour across Canada. Joannie, herself a survivor of GBS, works to help implement programs and services raising awareness and hope for individuals suffering from disabilities and their families.

It is my hope to raise general awareness of Guillain-Barré Syndrome and help people who are afflicted with this debilitating illness. Ultimately, I’d like to do whatever I can to help fund research, new treatments and a cure for this disease.
