Serge's decision to help raise money for research and treatment for Guillain-Barré Syndrome arose from his personal experience of living with the illness in 1999 at the age of 19. Serge has a new appreciation for the "simple" things in life. He believes that in your fight with GBS, your positive attitude will play a huge role in your recovery. From the moment of diagnosis, listen to your body, work hard to be healthy again and rest when needed.
He began his public crusade on February 10, 2000 against Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) when his "Skate with Serge" fundraising event benefited the Guillain-Barré Syndrome Foundation of Canada Inc. (GBSFC). Since then we host Annual Charity Golf Classics. Serge was diagnosed while playing junior hockey with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. The disorder is a rare but serious acute paralytic neurological disease. Following his experience, in a public message, Serge stated: "It is my hope to raise general awareness of Guillain-Barré Syndrome and help people who are afflicted with this debilitating illness. Ultimately, I'd like to do whatever I can to help fund research, new treatments and a cure for this disease". Serge continues his mission by encouraging participation in sponsored events such has our Charity Golf Classic and by offering victims an opportunity to share their experiences.
